Senior Accountant

Coal Services is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Sydney.
This is a high-impact role suited to a confident Senior Accountant who thrives on delivering financial insight, driving operational improvement and partnering with stakeholders to influence decision-making.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide high-quality planning, accounting and reporting support across multiple business units. You will play a key role in month-end processes, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting.
You will join a close-knit team of four accountants within a broader Finance function, working collaboratively while maintaining strong ownership of your portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead month-end processes including journals, reconciliations and reporting
• Prepare and analyse management reports with clear, insightful commentary
• Deliver detailed expense management, staff cost analysis and variance analysis
• Support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
• Prepare financial statements and support internal and external audit processes
• Ensure balance sheet integrity and strong financial governance
• Provide business partnering support to internal stakeholders
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
About You:
• CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) with 5+ years post qualification experience, or 10+ years in a similar role
• Strong background in accounting, financial control and reporting
• Extensive experience in expense oversight, staff cost analysis and variance analysis
• Confident in balance sheet reconciliations and statutory reporting
• Experience working in medium to large Australian organisations
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
• Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (MS Dynamics 365 advantageous)
• Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement focus
