Job Overview:
The Senior Principal MTO Designer completes assignments and directs the work activities of others in the Material Takeoff discipline. They can solve unique and complex problems and act as a subject matter expert. The Senior Principal MTO Designer can work autonomously within established procedures and practices. The Senior Principal MTO Designer can lead others to solve complex problems and use analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions. They directly impact the achievement of customer, operational, or service objectives.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate all material take-off activities for assigned projects
- Review project specifications and drawings to accurately determine material requirements
- Collaborate with project teams to identify potential material cost savings and recommend alternatives where applicable
- Develop and maintain MTO databases, ensuring up-to-date and accurate material quantities are maintained for procurement
- Utilize extensive knowledge of industry practices, codes, and standards to provide technical guidance and support to project teams
- Collaborate with engineering and procurement departments to ensure material specifications align with project requirements
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to material requirements, ensuring compliance with project specifications
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure timely completion of MTO activities within project schedules
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors to obtain accurate and competitive pricing for required materials
- Participate in project meetings to provide updates on MTO progress and address any concerns or challenges
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- High School Diploma with specialization in Design or Drafting or Engineering Degree in a related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in MTO engineering within the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) industry
- Proficient in using industry-specific software and tools for material take-offs
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry practices, codes, and standards
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately interpret project specifications and drawings
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills to meet project deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Proven problem-solving abilities and ability to think critically under pressure
- Solid understanding of procurement practices and materials management
