Software Engineer, Infrastructure, GSC Storage Efficiency

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• 2 years of coding experience in C++.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.
  
• Experience with distributed systems and infrastructure systems.
• Experience with building/modeling large-scale storage systems, delivering deep performance/efficiency improvements.
• Experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.

Google Customer Solutions (GCS) Storage Efficiency team's mission is to achieve optimal data storage efficiency, reducing the physical space required for each user byte, without sacrificing performance, durability, or data availability.
In this role, you will partner with SWEs in the broader GCS teams in Sunnyvale and Infrastructure Storage teams in New York. You will be pulling apart old systems, understanding the guts of them, replacing them with more reliable, maintainable, scalable and efficient systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

• Write product or system development code.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
