Amped I LLC is a design and engineering firm specializing in power infrastructure projects. The Substation Protection & Controls Engineer role involves leading engineering projects, designing protection and control systems for substations, and collaborating with project teams to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Lead substation protection and control engineering projects, partnering with design engineers and drafters to ensure high-quality deliverables are submitted on time
- Create and modify design documents and drawings, including electric substation one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements and specifications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and bills of material
- Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems
- Develop SCADA systems and communications interfaces
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to fully integrate protection, control, automation, and monitoring systems
- Perform engineering calculations such as relay burden, voltage drop, short circuit studies, battery sizing, auxiliary AC and DC load tabulations, and other analyses required to support project success
- Perform relay coordination studies and prepare relay settings
- Conduct engineering and technical quality reviews of deliverables prepared by other engineers and designers
- Perform site walk-downs to independently scope project requirements as needed
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery to project sites
- Support Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, including participating in client calls and meetings and assisting with project execution needs
- Contribute to the development of project cost estimates for substation protection and control projects, including planning, engineering/design, construction, and testing components
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of a substation project lifecycle at the utility level
- Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices
- High comfort level with teaching, training, and mentoring team members
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in relay protection and control design of high voltage 12-500 kV substations
- Engineer in Training (EIT) designation required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
