CSAA Insurance Group (CSAA IG), a AAA insurer, is one of the leading personal lines property and casualty insurance groups in the United States. They are seeking a Director of Business Development and Partnerships to build and lead a corporate development function aimed at creating growth opportunities through strategic partnerships.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and senior leaders in product, strategy, underwriting, and operations to align and prioritize future growth opportunities through partnership, acquisition, joint venture etc
- Cultivate a deep network of relationships across the industry and in key growth segments
- Understand AAA ecosystem to better match opportunities that work within the framework of CSAA’s club partner relationships
- Identify industry trends and areas of competitive differentiation and growth through market research and deep understanding of articulated and unarticulated customer needs
- Identify key segments, potential targets, strategic fit, opportunity sizing and impact
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of One-AAA OEM prospects and partners, driving all aspects of contract negotiations
- Drive successful implementation of partnerships, including short- and long-term operating model through a general agency, joint venture or other construct
- Manage OEMs as strategic partners, ensuring mutual success, exploring opportunities to expand the partnership, both with CSAA and throughout the AAA federation
- Recommend new segments for One-AAA expansion, e.g., big box retail, homebuilders, property management firms, real estate brokerages/listing sites, mortgage lenders, car dealerships, etc
- Provide regular updates on overall corporate development pipeline and outcomes to CSAAA executives, executive leadership team and (ELT) and Board of Directors
- Establish strong collaborative relationships across the organization, channeling feedback/insights back to product, operations, finance, etc. to improve overall performance
- Build and lead a high performing team that delivers results while promoting an inclusive environment that values different perspectives, experiences and ideas; coach and mentor
- Accountable for building and leading a new corporate development function that will have significant impact on CSAA’s long term growth strategy and risk diversification profile
- Primary executive responsible for sourcing, negotiating and closing our strategic “One-AAA” national OEM partnerships on behalf of the three AAA insurance companies for over $1B in future premiums in the next 5-10 years. The One-AAA initiative requires key relationships and influence across the AAA federation
Requirements:
- 10+ years experience in corporate and business development, preferably in a regulated industry such as insurance, banking, or healthcare; P&C insurance highly desired
- Demonstrated leadership experience in negotiating complex deals and partnerships, in large, matrixed organizations
- Proven ability to lead others directly or indirectly, as demonstrated through 5+ years of leading teams, enterprise-wide programs, or large cross-functional programs
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
- Proven track record of success at a senior level developing strategies for entering new markets and launching/growing new businesses, with effective execution and outcomes
- Keen business acumen to identify and assess the impact of industry trends, articulate strategy, and build an execution plan
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive enterprise impact with a record of achieving challenging objectives, balancing the needs of key internal and external stakeholders
- Strong partner management skills to build relationships and expand partnerships over time, vested in the shared success of all organizations
- Team player with ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across CSAA and with external partners; excellent interpersonal communications and presentation skills
- Self-starter with a bias for action, speed and results; comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- 5+ years in a senior leadership role
