General Motors is seeking a Safety Modeling Engineer to enhance their AV Safety Data Analytics team. This role involves developing driver behavior models and statistical and machine learning models to support safety evaluations for automated driving systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop driver behavior models representing human response in safety-critical scenarios
- Build statistical and machine learning models using large-scale driving and simulation datasets
- Analyze data to derive behavioral benchmarks and safety performance metrics
- Build scalable modeling pipelines and data workflows
- Partner with cross-functional teams to translate modeling results into safety evaluation methods
- Contribute to safety assessments and safety case evidence
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
- Expertise in human performance and capabilities, perception, response and behaviors
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL and data visualization
- Dev Ops and Infrastructure as Code: CI/CD, versioning, Docker & Kubernetes, GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Poetry, Terraform
- Experience working with perception, planning and control output
- Experience developing statistical or machine learning models using large datasets
- Experience with behavioral modeling, human performance analysis, or simulation-based analytics
- Demonstrated ability to analyze cross-disciplinary problems and propose practical modeling solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical results to cross-functional stakeholders
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field
- Relevant publication
- Experience with driver behavior modeling or human performance benchmarking
- Experience with causal inference or counterfactual modeling techniques
- Familiarity with simulation-based evaluation or scenario analysis
- Experience working with cloud or distributed data platforms
