The Senior Information Systems Engineer will oversee the engineering and management of complex IT systems, ensuring they meet specified requirements and function effectively within operational constraints.
Responsibilities:
- Gather, analyze, and document system requirements from stakeholders
- Translate business needs into technical specifications
- Develop system architecture and design documents
- Create models and simulations to validate system concepts
- Define interfaces between system components
- Plan and coordinate integration of hardware, software, and other components
- Design test strategies to verify system functionality and performance
- Identify and resolve integration issues and conflicts
- Ensure interoperability between subsystems
- Validate that the integrated system meets requirements
- Serve as technical liaison between implementation teams, management, and stakeholders
- Coordinate cross-functional teams working on different aspects of the system
- Manage technical risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Balance competing constraints (cost, schedule, performance, reliability)
- Guide trade-off decisions between different design alternatives
- Support the entire system lifecycle from conception through retirement
- Plan for system upgrades, maintenance, and evolution
- Manage configuration and change control processes
- Document system capabilities, limitations, and operational procedures
- Support transition from development to operations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
- 35 years of experience in systems engineering, system administration, or related technical role
- Proven experience designing, implementing, testing and supporting enterprise IT infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of network architecture, database systems/administration, and system integration
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Hands-on experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent documentation and technical writing abilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience participating in User Acceptance Testing and handling incident response
- Relevant technical certifications (MCSE, CCNA, AWS Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+)
- Experience with automation and scripting
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Familiarity with production monitoring and related monitoring tools
- Experience implementing and maintaining security controls and compliance requirements
- Background in performance tuning and capacity planning
