Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) will be the senior business leader, accountable for the overall performance and strategic direction of Mission Communications, with full P&L responsibility for a fast-growing business. The GM will own the commercial strategy, oversee day-to-day operations, and ensure that Mission continues to scale profitably while maintaining its reputation for reliability, innovation, and customer service in the water/wastewater utility segments.
This role is best suited for a commercially oriented, technically grounded executive who has successfully led a business or significant business unit through growth, ideally in industrial technology, automation, IoT, or water infrastructure markets. Prior exposure to the water/wastewater or utility space and demonstrable P&L ownership are strongly preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Own full P&L responsibility for a fast-growing business, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, EBITDA, capital allocation, and pricing strategy.
- Define and execute Mission’s multi-year growth strategy, expanding market share across utilities and municipalities while identifying new segments, partnerships, and adjacencies.
- Lead all commercial activities, including sales, marketing, key account management, and installed-base expansion.
- Establish annual operating plans, budgets, and KPIs; monitor performance and drive corrective actions to ensure profitable growth.
- Oversee manufacturing/assembly, supply chain, technical support, and service delivery to ensure on-time, high-quality deployments and ongoing service.
- Set product strategy and roadmap for the RTU portfolio and 123SCADA platform in partnership with engineering, aligning innovation with market needs and industry trends.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing cross-functional organization spanning sales, engineering, , finance, and customer support.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer-centric decision-making.
- Serve as the primary business leader and liaison to group leadership, communicating performance, risks, and strategic direction.
Other Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and support inorganic growth opportunities, integrations, or strategic partnerships as appropriate.
- Periodically represent Mission at industry events, tradeshows, associations, and key customer engagements to strengthen brand presence and market positioning.
- Ensure appropriate governance, compliance, quality, environmental, and safety standards are maintained.
- Drive continuous operational improvement initiatives leveraging KPI-based management and data-driven decision-making.
- Support leadership succession planning and organizational capability development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in technical discipline (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Systems Engineering; Computer Science; or related field).
- MBA or equivalent advanced business qualification preferred but not required.
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in industrial technology, automation, SaaS/IoT, or related B2B environments, with a strong commercial orientation.
- Prefer candidates who have had previous direct P&L responsibility for a business or business unit of meaningful scale with demonstrated profitable growth.
- Experience selling to utilities, municipalities, or critical infrastructure customers; water/wastewater experience strongly preferred
- Proven track record leading cross-functional teams that include sales, operations, engineering, and customer service.
- Background in businesses that combine hardware with recurring service/software revenue (e.g., managed services, SaaS, telemetry/SCADA).
