JOB SUMMARY
This position leads the implementation and maintenance of Information Resources infrastructure and services dedicated to the evolving computational and IT needs of UT Southwestern's research community. This includes collaborative efforts in a team of IT professionals with the technical expertise necessary to maintain cutting edge infrastructure in a fluid climate of user demands and technical solutions. The architect will report to the Chief Enterprise Architect and works collaboratively with the AVP of Research and Academic Systems, AVP of IT Operations, Chief Data Officer, other Information Resources (IR) roles, and research faculty, staff, students, and leadership. Please note, this position is not eligible for H1B visa sponsorship. Incumbent must reside in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex or be willing to relocate.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field
- Experience
8 years of progressively responsible related experience.
Additional years of directly related work experience may be considered on a year for year basis in lieu of stated education requirements.
Preferred

Experience leading technical application development and implementation projects in an academic research or healthcare environment preferred.
JOB DUTIES
- Liaises with researchers, centers, and labs across the UT Southwestern Enterprise to identify needs and strategize on how Information Resources might assist in their ongoing research activities. Work to implement these strategies. Acts as a liaison between faculty, the various UTSW offices of research, Sponsored Projects Administration, Office of Technology Development, BioHPC, Bioinformatics, IR, and other departments and centers to consult and determine what technical services and products would best fit research goals in alignment with institutional aims and policies.
- Participates in short- and long-term planning of research-centric networking, storage and computing environments that meet the demands of state-of-the-art infrastructures and technologies, including artificial intelligence and available capabilities.
- Oversees and participates in planning activities, such as design, installation, maintenance, service/support, optimization, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of the general research computing environment (CPU/GPU/TPU/PTU), including both on-premises and hosted designs.
- Oversees HPC-cluster-based and network-based security enforcement in accordance with university policy, strategic alliances, best practices, and applicable compliance regulations.
- Ensures resolution and/or escalation of emerging, detected, and reported technical performance and functionality issues through implementation of observability tools and techniques.
- Facilitates asset management of the managed research environment. Maintains a strong working knowledge of research departments‿ and labs‿ computing equipment throughout campus. This includes replacement/replenishment with lifecycle management, knowledge of emerging technologies, stewardship of like resources, interdependencies, planned obsolescence, and commission and decommissioning of technology.
- Leads IR side of research computing related projects such as process documentation, service enhancement, equipment updates, integration of licensing and agreements, information security involvement, service requests, idea tracking, and demand management.
- Contributes to capital planning and annual budget process for research computing hardware and associated costs. Has a working knowledge of grant-based funding for projects, including the estimation, application, administration, reporting, and auditing requirements, as they relate to technology.
- Provides UTSW researchers with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to conduct, manage and share their research data in compliance with funding agency mandates and data sharing policies effectively and efficiently. Supervises consulting services for:
- Data access, data management and data transfer solutions
- Adherence to reference architectures developed by enterprise or solution architects.
- Analysis of data, including statistical analysis packages and desktop (local or remote) delivery experiences
- Management of research data (e.g., Dataverse, DMPTool, Qualitative Data Repository, OSF)
- Data storage and retention solutions
- Secure gateways that adhere to NIST 800-53 System Security Plan, supporting Data Use Agreement requirements
- Confirms sound technical onboarding plans and migration advisory communications for newly recruited/appointed faculty or employees.
- Curates up-to-date internal education/resource/training content among the research community, educators, the academic community, and IR teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
