THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly capable and focused Group Financial Controller to lead and oversee the finance function across a growing group of B2B components wholesale and retail businesses. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for group financial control, statutory compliance, consolidated reporting, and the development of scalable finance processes to support continued growth.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will suit an experienced finance professional who is comfortable operating across multiple legal entities, trading channels, and high-volume, stock-intensive environments.
Group Financial Control & Reporting
Ownership of the group monthly close, consolidated management accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting
Preparation and review of statutory accounts for all group entities and consolidated group accounts
Ensure strong financial controls, consistent accounting policies, and governance across all entities
Technical Accounting & Compliance
Ensure compliance with UK GAAP / FRS 102, VAT, Corporation Tax, and other statutory requirements
Oversee group VAT returns, including partial exemption, intercompany trading, and cross-entity transactions
Manage intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and eliminations
Support tax planning in conjunction with external advisers
Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance
Lead group budgeting and rolling forecast processes
Provide detailed financial analysis by entity and channel.
Monitor performance against budgets and KPIs, highlighting risks and opportunities
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Stock
Group-wide cash flow forecasting and treasury management
Optimise working capital, with particular focus on stock valuation, stock turn, and supplier terms
Oversee credit control policies and customer payment performance across the group
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, develop, and mentor the group finance team, including entity-level finance managers and transactional teams
Set clear standards, processes, and reporting frameworks across the group
Act as a key point of escalation for complex accounting or commercial matter
Systems, Controls & Change
Support CFO with development of group finance systems, including ERP and consolidation tools
Drive standardisation, automation, and process improvement across entities
Commercial & Strategic Support
Partner with senior leadership, sales, purchasing, and operations teams
Support pricing strategies, margin improvement, and supplier negotiations
Evaluate investment cases, acquisitions, and growth initiatives
THE SKILLS
Essential
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) 5 years PQE
Experience in a Group Financial Controller or senior group finance role
Strong background in wholesale, distribution, retail, or B2B trading environments
Proven experience producing consolidated group accounts
Excellent technical accounting and financial control expertise
Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
Experience in components, technical products, or high-SKU environments
Experience in process improvements to support business growth
Experience implementing or upgrading ERP or group reporting systems
Personal Attributes
Highly organised, detail-driven, and technically strong
Commercially aware with the confidence to challenge and influence
Comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on levels
Proactive, resilient, and adaptable in a fast-moving group environment
