The American Red Cross is the world's largest humanitarian network, and they are seeking an Associate Technical Product Manager for their Innovation team. This role involves working with stakeholders to document and deliver product requirements for technology solutions that support the Red Cross mission, while also driving rapid experimentation and prototyping.
Responsibilities:
- As part of the Innovation team, ideate and evaluate technology, industrial/physical automation, and AI opportunities in helping our Biomedical Services mission area delivery
- Document the business cases that can be used to initiate technology and AI projects
- Drive rapid experimentation by quickly translating ideas into user stories, UX mockups, and functional prototypes to validate desirability, feasibility, and user desirability in our Biomedical Services Test Kitchen
- Build lightweight proofs of concept using low/no-code approaches when appropriate to accelerate validation and reduce time-to-learning
- Partner closely with engineers and stakeholders to keep prototypes moving from concept to working demo—removing blockers and ensuring clear next actions
- Help maintain a roadmap of all active projects with high-level timelines tracking project/portfolio performance metrics to monitor business value over time
- Work with our employees, contractors, and volunteers to coordinate the daily task and status of work within the Innovation team
- Learn and understand business processes and technical requirements for the development of solutions
- Work closely with clients to analyze the current and future direction of technology and data science to meet business goals
- Investigate complex operations-related problems/inquiries and recommend, facilitate and coordinate solutions
- Prepare communications and make presentations related to your work
- Educate clients about the software and project lifecycles and the business roles
- Facilitate problem resolution between IT and the business, as needed
- Represent, champion and balance client interests within IT
- Provide training and guidance to other staff
- Perform testing of the product at the site and remotely
- Log bugs and work with the developers for resolving the issues
- Drive user testing with field resources to check if the product works as desired from user point of view
- Frequent visits to the site to build relationships with the field teams and understand user pain points
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field preferred
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of related experience in the Technical Product Management space or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred
- Recent coding experience required, ideally with HTML, CSS, and an object-oriented programming language, e.g. Python/Java/C#/C++
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype solutions (e.g., wireframes/mock UI, clickable prototypes, or functional proofs of concept) and iterate based on stakeholder/user feedback
- Comfortable working in ambiguity with a test-and-learn approach—able to define assumptions, run quick validations, and communicate results and tradeoffs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong technical aptitude and interest in emerging and AI technologies
- Evangelist and practitioner of agile and user centered design principles
- Strong attention to detail
- Occasional travel may be required to Johnstown, PA once a month and to other Red Cross sites as needed
- Experience working with APIs and reading technical documentation. Working with LLMs a plus. Experience translating real world constraints into product requirements and tests
- Experience with generative AI product concepts and workflows (e.g., prompt engineering, context management, agentic patterns, RAG, or similar applied GenAI approaches)
- Experience using Excel to analyze, organize, and interpret data to support reporting and decision making
- A sense of unparalleled passion, energy, and eagerness to contribute to and support the mission of the Red Cross
