CDM Smith is a company that values its employees and fosters a supportive work environment. They are seeking an Electrical Engineering Specialist to lead and execute complex electrical system designs, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Creates moderate to highly complex designs of electric master system plans, power systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other related electrical systems
- Executes and oversees electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, refining sketches, and incorporating design changes, redlines, and markups
- Performs and contributes to studies of power systems and electrical calculations, including lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and similar analytical tasks
- Conducts site reviews and field studies, as needed, to ensure design solutions align with project and location-specific requirements
- Updates design requirements and ensures that firm policies, industry standards, and federal, state, and local regulations are followed on all designs
- Develops white papers, technical documentation, and special-case design studies as part of the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) program; may submit technical work to industry publications
- Collaborates with sales staff to develop proposals in response to client RFPs and reviews proposal drafts for compliance with firm standards and best practices
- Meets with current and prospective clients to understand their design needs and support ongoing and future project work
- Represents the firm at conferences, symposia, and industry events to increase visibility of CDM Smith’s capabilities in partnership with sales staff
- Provides technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior personnel, supporting their development within the discipline and the organization
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10 years of related experience
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required
- Working knowledge of CADD software, including 3D and 4D design tools
- Expert understanding of engineering design principles and standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to electrical design
- Proficiency in protective relay schemes and developing relay schematics/wiring diagrams
- Expertise in specifying and selecting electrical equipment, including SCADA/RTU hardware
- Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards
- Knowledge of substation grounding grid design and lightning protection systems
