Description
The High School Counselor provides Christ-centered, biblically grounded counseling to students. This role supports students in making righteous decisions in relation to their spiritual, educational, and occupational lives. The counselor fosters a student’s growth in their personal relationship while promoting mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness in the Lord while ultimately helping students discover the Lord’s calling in their lives.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- A vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, with a clear Christian testimony.
- A Christian role model who follows biblical principles in attitude, speech, and actions towards others.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Masters degree in counseling
- Counseling Certification preferred
- A minimum of three years experience counseling in a school setting
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Counseling Services
- Provide counseling that will lead each student to increased emotional and spiritual growth/maturity.
- Take an active role in interpreting the school’s mission and associated counseling programs to parents, students, and community.
- Maintain student records in accordance with applicable directives to insure confidentiality and accuracy.
- Work to resolve student issues that could impede individual successes.
- Mediate peer to peer conflict according to the Matthew 18 Principle.
- Partner with the campus Principal to ensure student discipline and lifestyles are aligned with Delmarva Christian’s student covenant and as outlined in the employee handbook.
Coworker Support
- Work with campus Principal, Director of Instruction, Continuum of Support Coordinator, and teachers to identify patterns and possible tiers of student support.
- Keep staff informed as to issues that are germane to the educational process by way of frequent communication and weekly/monthly student meetings.
Life Calling Program
- Guide students and parents in the application of strengths, gifts, and passions to DCHS courses and post-graduation steps.
- Organize college fairs and potential scholarships for upcoming graduates.
- Conduct junior/senior meetings with students and parents to assist with the identification of next steps.
- Act as the primary coordinator for student Career Day
Student Records
- Assist the Director of Instruction and campus Principal with the annual creation of student course schedules.
- Support rigorous course pathways appropriate to the student population.
- Check graduation requirements and appropriate course credits
- Support transcript maintenance and distribution as requested.
- Complete college application documents and submit as requested.
- Oversee the dual enrollment process for students.
- Assist with the offering of a Financial Aid night at DCHS.
Testing
- Administer the SAT and PSAT assessments on an annual basis.
- AP coordinator- order and administer AP exams
- SSD Coordinator for College Board testing accommodations (with Continuum of Support Coordinator)
- Coordinate ASVAB testing biannually

- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance financial knowledge and skills.
- Follows the biblical conflict resolution process as detailed in the Employee Handbook when addressing concerns or disagreements
