What’s the role
Shell is seeking a Technical Support Manager to join their team in Calgary.
This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at LNGC. The Technical Support Manager, seconded to LNG from Shell, plays a pivotal role in enabling high quality operational performance across the facility. In this position, you will uphold Shell’s technical and operational standards while supporting the delivery of LNGC’s business outcomes including top tier safety performance, strong environmental stewardship, high reliability and availability, and disciplined cost management. This is a unique opportunity to influence the development and maturity of LNGC’s operating organization during a critical growth phase, while applying Shell’s global expertise in LNG operations, asset management, and operational excellence.
Shell LNG Canada (LNGC) is Canada’s first largescale LNG export facility. With Phase 1 now in operation, LNGC has transitioned from a project to a business and is progressing work toward a potential Phase 2 expansion, which could double capacity and help Canada emerge as a top five global LNG exporter. As part of Shell, you will contribute directly to the safe, reliable, and responsible operation of this worldclass asset while supporting the joint venture’s long-term success scale LNG export facility. Accountabilities:
Responsible for managing the Engineering, Brownfield Projects, and Maintenance & Turnaround organizations
Ensure technical integrity of the LNG plant, storage and loading facilities, utilities, and associated maintenance programs
Lead Start‑Up and Ramp‑Up delivery through to steady‑state operations, focusing on reliability in both near‑term and long‑term horizons
Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring robust cost controls
Serve as Asset Management System Process Owner for key processes, including leading work process health checks
Champion UOC Management to achieve best‑in‑class performance in the Operate phase
Identify and deliver operational improvements that enhance availability and reliability
Manage staffing, succession planning, and capability development to ensure organizational readiness
Coordinate interfaces across Operations, Marine, Maintenance, and Engineering teams
Build strong relationships with regulators and external agencies, ensuring full compliance with all requirements
Represent Shell in a joint‑venture operating environment, maintaining alignment with Shell standards where applicable
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineer
Must hold Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registration
At least 15 years of engineering and maintenance experience, including at least 8 years in line management roles
Significant experience in LNG operations
A strong track record in Process Safety
Demonstrated experience improving team performance in both Mega Project and Asset environments
Experience working closely with P&T/SEAM Operations Excellence teams
Expertise in project management, Commissioning & Start‑Up (CSU), and Path to Asset (P2A) processes
Demonstrated LEAN capability and a clear vision for organizational efficiency
Experience within large Joint Venture NOV contexts
