Product Development Technician (3-Month Term)
Reporting to the Electrical Design Manager and working directly under the Electrical Senior Designer, the candidate will be a key member of the engineering organization responsible for the design, development and implementation of the electrical systems for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products that meet or exceed best-in-class performance.
In this position, the candidate will work as a leader of an electrical design team completing electrical designs and projects meeting safety & compliance requirements, cost requirements, performance requirements, and optimized for production. This position is an office environment with hands-on product development and production floor requirements
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
• Participate in the design and development of electrical systems for HVAC units, including control panels and associated electrical/control components.
• Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, component placement, wiring diagrams, and routing using Electrical and 3D CAD systems.
• Support product development builds, including electrical assembly and construction of prototype units.
• Develop and implement work instructions, processes, procedures, design standards, and test plans for electrical production environments.
• Communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, internal teams, and field personnel to support product design, manufacturing, commissioning, and service.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical and control systems to assist field service personnel.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sales, quality, and supply chain teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Ensure products meet North American certification and compliance requirements including CSA, UL, and CE standards.
• Participate in testing and validation activities for electrical systems and controls.
• Travel occasionally within Canada and the United States as required.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering OR Technologist Diploma in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering Technology
• Registration or eligibility for registration with EGM or CTTAM
• 5+ years of experience in product design and development of large mechanical, commercial, or HVAC equipment
• Experience with electrical components such as motors, contactors, relays, selector switches, and VFDs
• Proficiency in SolidWorks Electrical and SolidWorks 3D (AutoCAD experience acceptable)
• Experience with engineering release processes, including ECOs, MRP systems, Bills of Materials, and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly
• Proficiency using electrical testing and instrumentation equipment (multimeters, Hi-Pot testers, temperature sensors, pressure transducers, data loggers, etc.)
• Knowledge of CSA, UL, and CE standards
• Strong problem-solving skills and understanding of the product development lifecycle
• Valid passport for travel within Canada and the United States
