The Role
Wood is seeking a Senior Construction Manager for our Minerals and Metals construction project in Northern Saskatchewan. This position has overall responsibility for proactively planning and managing all construction activities and ensuring successful completion of a significant greenfield uranium project being executed for one of our major clients. The role will start with construction input support in Wood’s Saskatoon Office during the design phase and transition to site at the commencement of construction. Typical responsibilities:
- Join the project during the detail engineering phase and ensure the appropriate input is provided during the design phase with respect to construction planning and execution. These include:
- Development of the Project HSSE plan
- Constructability Input / Review
- Contracting Strategy Input
- Temporary Facilities
- Construction Project Management Plan Development
- Construction Quality Plan
- Ensure project safety regulations, project health and safety manual and site procedures are in place, maintained on the project and applied
- Proactively manage and report on the status of safety, quality, schedule and cost of the construction activities
- Develop construction strategy, execution plan and leadership in the development of the construction schedule
- Plan, interview and recommend to senior management , the assignment of field staff to the Construction Management team
- Responsible for Construction Work Breakdown Structure (CWBS) and Work Packages and provide input into Procurement and Contracting Work Packages
- Develop and maintain, in conjunction with the Planner/Scheduler, the construction schedule
- Ensure required permits are in place
- Ensure construction contracts are fairly and responsibly administered
- Direct the contract administrator, construction coordinators and engineers in the overall management of the contract packages
- Negotiate project issues with contractors related to cost, changes, schedule, risks and deliverables for recommendation to the Project Manager
- Work closely with staff to ensure that the project scope, change orders, schedule, reporting and budget are accurately planned, prepared, monitored, communicated and met
- Issue daily, weekly and monthly progress reports outlining items of concern such as safety observations, non-conformance with specifications and drawings, equipment and weather delays, congestion, workmanship, quality control and potential contract
- Provide support to engineering designs with respect to constructability and schedule
- Coordinate engineering requirements between site and engineering offices and ensure strong interaction with the engineering team.
- Assist the contractors with clarification, interpretation, interference resolution and QA/QC related matters
- Respond to and process contractor’s requests for information (RFIs)
- Review and approve QA/QC non conformance reports (NCRs)
- Ensure instructions, drawings and specifications for scope changes are issued in a timely manner
- Develop and maintain communication channels with clients, stake holders, and internal personnel to ensure that work flows smoothly and is delivered to customer’s expectations
- Proactively work with contractors to ensure project safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives are being achieved.
- Monitor construction activities with respect to performance, procedure, and quality.
- Ensure appropriate checks and attestations are performed prior to approving of contractor’s month end progress claims and change orders

Expected:
- Engineering technologist diploma or graduate degree in related field is considered an asset
- At least 15-20 years of experience in construction management with mining or heavy industrial projects including at least 10 years increasing responsibility as a construction manager along with a focus on mining projects of CDN $500 million or more
Desirable:
- AutoCAD and/or 3D design/drafting software capabilities is considered an asset
- Previous experience working with northern contractors in northern Saskatchewan is considered an asset
