The American Heart Association is seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Communications Manager - Scientific Meetings to lead strategic marketing and communications for national scientific meetings. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to drive engagement, sponsorship support, and revenue growth through integrated communication strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications plans for assigned national scientific meetings and related products
- Align communications strategy with registration, abstract submission, sponsorship, and membership growth objectives to drive measurable revenue outcomes
- Partner closely with Operations and business stakeholders to ensure revenue targets, communications timelines, and campaign milestones align with overall event planning cycles
- Manage assigned marketing budgets, including oversight of internal resources and external vendors, ensuring disciplined investment and clear return on marketing spend
- Develop and oversee integrated channel strategy across paid, owned, and earned media, collaborating with paid media, digital, and social teams to ensure cohesive execution across organizational platforms
- Identify and implement growth strategies across key audience segments, including early career, specialty, international, and other priority groups
- Drive innovation through thoughtful experimentation with new platforms, formats, messaging approaches, and technologies to enhance reach, engagement, and performance
- Own performance reporting, analyze campaign results, and provide data-driven recommendations to optimize year-over-year outcomes
- Serve as the primary marketing partner to event Operations and Science leadership
- Clarify marketing roles, responsibilities, and decision rights within cross-functional event planning processes
- Influence stakeholders without direct authority while maintaining accountability for results
- Mentor and guide Marketing Manager(s) and project contributors supporting assigned meetings
- Present marketing strategies and performance outcomes to senior leadership as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Health, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing or marketing communications, including experience leading integrated campaigns
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and strict timelines
- Experience managing marketing budgets and external vendors
- Proven ability to develop data-driven marketing strategies and measure performance outcomes
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
- Experience in healthcare, scientific meetings, professional membership organizations, or nonprofit environments
- Experience supporting national events or conferences with revenue accountability
- Experience developing paid media and digital channel strategies
