We are seeking a full-time Safety Engineer to lead and enhance safety initiatives across our vibrant community. This role is critical in maintaining a secure, compliant, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors across independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, CMS, NFPA, USBC) and maintain required documentation, logs, and inspection reports.
- Conduct internal safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations; develop corrective action plans.
- Oversee fire safety, emergency power, and life safety systems; coordinate drills, disaster preparedness, and infection control measures.
- Maintain the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), lead response planning for disasters and emergencies, and serve as Safety Officer and Active Shooter authority.
- Develop and deliver staff training on workplace safety, hazard communication, ergonomics, and resident safety; support QAPI initiatives and safety committees.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Maintenance, and local emergency agencies to address safety and preparedness concerns.
- Track safety metrics, prepare leadership reports, and recommend improvements based on trends and KPIs
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field required.
- 5 - 7 years of experience in healthcare, senior living, hospital, or long-term care environments preferred; regulatory survey and compliance experience strongly preferred.
- Preferred certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Healthcare Safety Certification (CHSP or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of healthcare safety regulations, life safety codes, risk assessments, and root cause analyses.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proficiency in safety reporting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Physical requirements: ability to walk extensively across campus, inspect mechanical rooms and rooftops, and be on-call during emergencies.
