Thomas Thor is a dynamic company shaping the future of advanced nuclear energy. They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze Nuclear Steam Supply System piping for a next-generation modular advanced light water reactor, ensuring compliance with industry standards and providing technical oversight to early-career engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform complex piping and component stress analyses for ASME BPVC Section III Class 1–3 systems using AutoPIPE, ANSYS, and hand calculations, including NF pipe support evaluations
- Conduct static and dynamic analyses (response spectrum, time history, thermal loads, seismic events, and fluid transients) to ensure compliance with ASME design criteria
- Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, and CAD models (Siemens NX), collaborating closely with drafters to validate design accuracy
- Lead design solution assessments, such as piping reroutes and support reconfigurations, to resolve stress issues and optimize system performance
- Provide technical oversight and mentoring to early‑career engineers while managing diverse, complex tasks, interpreting project scope, and maintaining required qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years engineering experience
- Experience with design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III piping systems in accordance with the requirements of NB, NC, or ND-3600
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) Certification
