APR Consulting is seeking a Senior Advanced Systems Engineer to support Space Force missile tracking and defense initiatives. The role involves designing, integrating, and analyzing complex space and ground systems, utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering principles.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain space and ground system architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles
- Perform requirements analysis and decomposition, translating mission needs into physical, functional, and logical architecture views
- Define system architectures, system interfaces, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
- Develop and analyze system-level Technical Performance Measures (TPMs) to support mission effectiveness
- Define segment budgets and perform system trade studies and tradeoff analyses
- Conduct probabilistic mission analysis for space and ground systems and manage analytical models supporting system performance
- Coordinate mission performance and system design within MBSE models
- Drive interface definition based on mission-derived performance measures
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external customers to develop integrated system solutions
- Support system design change management and configuration coordination
- Develop system threads and Concepts of Operations (CONOPs) for space and ground architectures supporting missile tracking missions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, Technology, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
- Master's degree in a related STEM field plus 6 years of relevant experience
- Strong background in systems architecture and integration for space and ground systems
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required
- Experience developing space and ground system architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies
- Requirements development, allocation, and traceability management
- Architecture decomposition and interface definition
- Experience developing and analyzing Technical Performance Measures (TPMs)
- Knowledge of Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) satellite-to-ground systems
- Experience developing and coordinating Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
- Experience with space constellation system design and operations
- Space mission design including sensing, communications, payload management, and mission data processing
- Flight dynamics management including collision avoidance, station keeping, orbit insertion, de-orbit operations, and Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) support
- Experience with orbit determination and space-to-ground contact planning
- Strong system change management and cross-functional coordination skills
- Familiarity with MagicDraw and advanced MBSE tools
- Experience with enterprise and cloud-based interfaces including REST, gRPC, Kafka, and SNMP
- Knowledge of CCSDS protocols and space communication standards
- Experience with RF and optical space communications
- Knowledge of IP networking and data archiving methods
- Experience with space ground antenna systems and OpenC3
- Familiarity with MDA programs and commercial cloud architectures
- Experience supporting automated flight dynamics operational workflows
- Exposure to AI-enabled tools such as FreeFlyer or Meridian
- Ability to support constellation situational awareness, anomaly resolution, and performance trending analysis
- Ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation supporting system development and engineering activities
- Experience working in Agile development environments
