The AVP, Product Leader role involves overseeing the Global Property portfolio, establishing underwriting standards, and collaborating with various departments to promote profitable growth in the Middle Market segment.
Responsibilities:
- Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines: Intakes underwriting referrals as per established referral pathways and acts as a new business triage resource
- Collaborates with business partners in Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Operations and Compliance to address governance and compliance issues related to underwriting practices
- Implements strategic objectives, underwriting strategies and best practices with substantial impact on the short-term success of the Property product line
- Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for Property through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues
- Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews and develops plans to resolve issues
- Establishes and implements underwriting guidelines, policy, forms, and manuscript endorsements; identifies gaps in product offerings
- Monitors the usage and profitability of alternative pricing programs
- Drives adherence to underwriting authority delegation, audit criteria and catastrophe management for Property
- Confident in freely sharing knowledge and expertise with others, mentoring, and assisting in the development and facilitation of underwriting training
- May take lead responsibility for the development of underwriting strategies and position papers for emerging issues when assigned
- May maintain relationships with field underwriting teams, brokers, agents, and customers to assess risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging issues
- May perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 10+ years of underwriting experience in property/package underwriting
- Strong coverage knowledge in property/package lines
- Skill in assessing exposures to loss, loss analysis and pricing
- Overall management, analysis and monitoring of a global portfolio, specializing in Middle Market
- In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the Property insurance field
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners
- Leadership and management skills, demonstrating integrity and professionalism
- Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
- Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience
- Five years management experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Master's degree in a related discipline
- Industry certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
