Aptive Resources is seeking an expert Human Factors Engineering or Health/Clinical Informatics SME to support the Veterans Health Administration. This role focuses on enhancing usability and performance of VA systems by applying human centered design and evaluation methodologies to improve veteran health outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize advanced skill and analytical techniques to plan, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes and technical information systems within the VHA healthcare setting and apply human factors engineering methods to enhance outcomes
- Apply the latest advancements in human factors engineering, incorporating innovative research and industry best practices into product evaluations and design strategies
- Provide expert guidance and make thoughtful suggestions, including during cross functional team calls, reacting adeptly to client needs
- Champion human centered design, resilience engineering, and Safety-II concepts in daily work promoting systems level approaches
- Deliver comprehensive reviews of products and procedures to pinpoint areas for enhancement, offering recommendations for redesigns or adjustments to reduce any adverse effects on users
- Visualize and anticipate the effects of design changes on diverse user groups, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of product development
- Utilize both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to guide design choices and enhance operational effectiveness
- Identify potential risks associated with information system implementation and operation, developing and continuously improving strategies to mitigate risks and support program success
- Clearly convey human factors considerations to cross-functional (matrixed) teams through both formal and informal channels, facilitating collaboration and promoting shared understanding among all stakeholders
- Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant standards and human factors engineering methods, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Demonstrate proficiency in SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, driving value and operational excellence through the empowerment of high-performing Agile teams
Requirements:
- Master's degree focused on one of the following areas: Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Systems Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Health Informatics, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in human factors engineering or a closely related field, with a focus on improving user outcomes through systems and/or product design, and evaluation of user experience
- Deep understanding of human factors engineering principles, research methodologies, and usability standards
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex human factor concepts, recommendations, and risks to diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels
- Experience with SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, with a demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and foster operational excellence through Agile methodologies
- Experience supporting the VA or VHA highly desired (preference for recent or current VA suitability clearance)
- Doctoral degree in Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Engineering, Cognitive Systems Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Informatics, or related field
- Professional certifications including, but not limited to, CPE (Certified Professional Ergonomist), CHFEP (Certified Human Factors Engineering Professional), and CPHFH (Certified Professional in Human Factors in Health Care)
- Project Management training and/or certification
