The Area Field Engineer will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership, ensuring that all engineering activities operate safely and conform to quality standards. Responsibilities include overseeing work planning, material management, safety and quality control, and coordinating system turnover and subcontracting.
Responsibilities:
- On larger (PFE Tier II - >$1B and/or >1500 craft) or more complex jobs, performs the duties of the Project Field Engineer, responsible for coordination of all activities related to the area of responsibility and interfacing with all other operating sections of the job-site
- Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
- Develops and recommends the construction engineering staffing plan for approval by the Site Manager (or appropriate level of Project Management) and prepares employee requisitions
- Directs construction engineering activities of the assigned construction engineering staff, ensuring compliance with procedures
- Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required
- Directs preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, equipment
- Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Area execution leadership: Lead and integrate all discipline field engineers within the area to deliver safe, coordinated, and efficient construction execution
- Cross-discipline work planning: Align civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping activities to area priorities, sequencing, and constraints
- Schedule & performance ownership: Own area lookaheads, productivity, and critical path impacts; proactively remove constraints and drive recovery actions
- Safety, quality & compliance leadership: Set expectations and ensure consistent application of HSE and QA/QC requirements across all disciplines in the area
- Stakeholder coordination & decision authority: Act as the primary field interface for superintendents, construction management, engineering, and project controls; escalate and resolve issues decisively
- Experience in semiconductor, EV battery, data centers, or Pharmaceuticals
- Hands-on implementation of AWP and OSM strategies; experience with project setup, system turnover, and completion
- Proficiency with digital execution tools, 4D/5D planning, and analytics
