CACI is a company focused on delivering high-impact AI solutions that enhance national security missions. The Applied AI Software Engineer will build and deploy AI capabilities, mentor teams, and ensure the successful transition of AI solutions to program ownership.
Responsibilities:
- Build and deploy high-impact AI capabilities aligned to program requirements in AWS cloud and on-premises environments that demonstrate measurable value
- Quickly understand diverse program requirements and translate them into deployable AI solutions
- Stand up AI development environments and supporting infrastructure on programs with hands-on assistance to ensure smooth transition to program ownership
- Provide hands-on deployment support including production readiness guidance and technical troubleshooting
- Participate in weekly AI Office Hours to address technical questions from programs across the company
- Demonstrate AI capabilities to program stakeholders and internal teams, clearly articulating technical approach and mission impact
- Mentor program teams on AI concepts, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices to enable self-sufficiency
- Transition AI capabilities to program ownership, ensuring teams can maintain and operate solutions independently
- Leverage AI tools and agents to maximize personal and team productivity, demonstrating AI-forward workflows
- Collaborate with AI Acceleration Center team members to scale best practices and reusable capabilities across our programs
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related technical field
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as a productive individual contributor with limited supervision
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Experience with containerization and deployment technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS cloud environments
- Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT) to accelerate coding, debugging, and delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience collaborating with or informally guiding peers on technical topics
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance
- Experience building GenAI-powered applications using modern AI platforms and frameworks, including RAG pipelines, agent-based workflows, or automation systems that streamline engineering or mission processes
- Working knowledge of LLM fundamentals, prompt design, and systematic evaluation of model outputs
- Practical exposure to MLOps or LLMOps concepts, including experimentation tracking and performance monitoring using tools such as MLflow, LangFuse, Comet, or similar
- Background supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community programs
