The Director of Respiratory Therapy is responsible for the direction, organization, planning, staffing and control of the respiratory care and cardiopulmonary diagnostic functions of AMC. He/she must also provide and supervise a full range of respiratory care modalities, ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, ABG’s, EKG’s, cardiac stress tests, cardiac event monitors, Holter monitors, ABP, EEG, PFTS with body plethysmography and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) testing.
Job Duties:
- Leads the Respiratory Therapy Department in alignment with AMC’s Mission and Vision Statements, ensuring regulatory compliance, safety, and high-quality patient care.
- Maintains current knowledge of clinical standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Builds strong relationships with medical staff, external partners, and other AMC departments.
- Designs and manages departmental structure, staffing plans, policies, and workflows.
- Develops goals, budgets, and strategic plans that support organizational priorities.
- Oversees recruitment, onboarding, competency assessment, performance management, and staff development.
- Manages scheduling, productivity, payroll approval, and departmental resources within budget.
- Directs quality improvement initiatives and ensures staff participation in performance improvement activities.
- Maintains clinical competency and oversees all routine and advanced respiratory care procedures.
- Responsible for the provision and supervision of all routine and advanced diagnostic procedures that the Cardiopulmonary Department provides.
- Must be able to perform EKG’s, Holter monitors, cardiac event monitors, cardiac stress testing, pulmonary function testing, FENO testing, EEG’s, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or Health Care Administration is preferred.
- Must be a registered respiratory therapist by the NBRC.
- Must be a licensed respiratory therapist in the State of Wisconsin.
- Must be certified in basic life support and must keep certification current.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a respiratory therapist and prefer a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a management role.
