About the Team:
The Local Regulatory & Response (LRR) team empowers the business by navigating complex regulatory landscapes, shaping strategies that allow our company to achieve their boldest ambitions while meeting evolving legal and regulatory expectations. The LRR team is responsible for managing in-country regulatory matters, including advising on new and existing laws and regulations, engaging with regulators, and ensuring proactive alignment with fast-changing laws across multiple jurisdictions.
The Senior Counsel - Local Regulatory & Response will oversee matters in the APAC++ regions, and be part of the global regulatory team. This role will report directly to the Head of Local Regulatory & Response APAC, with a dotted line to the Head of Local Regulatory & Response METAPSA & REECA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic advice and insights to leadership and business teams on a broad variety of regulatory legal matters, including regulatory compliance for content governance and platform safety across multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop and execute regulatory strategies and plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Stay on top of the changes in regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable steps for the company.
- Monitor, highlight and address key legal trends, risks and opportunities, including supporting government relations and policy teams with advocacy work.
- Support crisis management in the regions by developing country-specific compliance strategies to mitigate platform disruption risks or restrictions.
- Work cross-functionally with colleagues in related functions, business leaders for in-country on escalations in areas of regulator & government, engagements & lobbying, social media licensing, app stability, corporate governance matters for local entities, as well as assisting other global legal teams generally with in-country regulatory support.
