AbbVie is dedicated to discovering and delivering innovative medicines and solutions that address serious health issues. The Associate Director, Fellowship and Residency Programs, focuses on training and educating ophthalmic surgeons, fellows, and residents in integrating AbbVie’s technologies into clinical practice, involving direct surgical support and educational initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Attend surgeries and clinical cases until surgeons and fellows are proficient and confident in performing procedures
- Execute comprehensive wet lab procedural training at designated institutions
- Support surgical and clinical cases to introduce and update new techniques, aiming to improve patient outcomes
- Educate PGY3-4 residents, glaucoma and retina fellows, and faculty on MIGS, interventional glaucoma technologies, and evolving treatment paradigms
- Train clinical staff and physicians to identify ideal patient profiles suitable for AbbVie technologies
- Collaborate with departmental heads, including academic chairs and program directors, to identify educational needs annually
- Assist hospital administrators and material managers in gaining approval for AbbVie technologies
- Coordinate with surgeons and staff alongside Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs) to facilitate proper reimbursement and medical inquiries
- Conduct training sessions with residents, fellows, clinic staff, and surgeons to promote AbbVie’s technologies and explore future opportunities
- Support and participate in educational symposiums and conferences relevant to ophthalmology
- Identify, develop, and nurture relationships with Key Opinion Leaders in ophthalmology
- Assist in transitioning graduating residents and fellows to the sales team for ongoing support and product adoption
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a concentration in science, business, or marketing preferred
- 4-8 years of experience in the medical device industry, specifically within surgical ophthalmology
- Experience in ophthalmic surgical procedures, buy-and-bill processes, and familiarity with MIGS and Retina surgical sales
- Proven ability to train and work within ophthalmic teaching environments, including pre-commercial market launches and new technology expansion
- Strong public speaking skills
- Relationship-building capabilities
- Experience with CRM or Veeva systems
- Ability to travel 50-70% of the time
- Meet and exceed sales or training goals
- Work within budget constraints
- Additional experience with HOPD VAC/approval processes
