Lockheed Martin Corporation is a leading aerospace and defense company, and they are seeking a Senior Welding Engineer to serve as the Welding Subject Matter Expert for their Multi Function Capability Engineering Team. The role involves driving the design, development, and production of advanced hardware while ensuring weld quality, reliability, and manufacturability across critical programs.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for weld symbols, processes, and code compliance; providing clear, actionable feedback
- Leading internal and external root cause investigations of welding issues and recommending corrective actions that boost productivity
- Conducting on site supplier audits and weld quality inspections to enforce our standards on hardware received from vendors
- Designing, planning, and executing welding qualification test programs; interpreting mechanical test and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) results
- Drafting Statements of Work (SOW) and coordinating with external weld integrators or vendors to add new capabilities or expand capacity
- Supporting cross functional teams (design, manufacturing, materials engineering) with process improvements and fabrication issue resolution
- Developing and updating welding procedures, documentation, and work instructions to reflect best practices and lessons learned
- Representing the organization in technical meetings, presenting solutions, and championing weld related innovations throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements:
- B.S. degree or higher in welding engineering, welding engineering technology, or related field
- 10+ years' experience with hands on fabrication and manufacturing of welded assemblies
- Demonstrate experience working with structured welding codes
- Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed
- Experience writing test plans, test procedures, and inspection criteria
- Fundamental understanding of welding processes including, but not limited to, resistance, electron beam, laser beam, plasma arc, resistance, friction stir, GTAW, and GMAW
- Experience with Tooling design experience for welded assemblies to reduce weldment distortion and improve producibility
- Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems
- Experience working with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, nickel alloys and high strength steels
- Be willing to travel as required approximately 60%, both domestic and international
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
- Experience leading teams and training engineers in Welding best practices
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Master's degree in Welding Engineering
- Experience with the following processes: GTAW, GMAW, LBW, EBW Fundamental knowledge of welding processes across a variety of material systems
- Experience with root Cause Analysis and corrective actions including, but not limited to, optical and SEM fractography/ metallography, hardness, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma
- Experience with AWS D17.1, D1.2, D1.1
