The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) owns and operates public seaport and intermodal facilities in Charleston, Dillon, and Greer. Our 700+ employees handle cargo, operate, and maintain cargo handling equipment, manage port facilities and operations, and support the port system in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
This position develops, implements, and leads business development objectives in pursuit of the South Carolina Ports’ aggressive goals for increasing cargo volume, revenue, and earnings. The Manager, Sales is the face of organization’s service offerings, providing subject matter expertise to new and existing clients while driving continuous improvement to the sales strategy.
Job Description
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Maintains and expands the customer base in existing and target industry verticals by building relationships with key customers and service providers.
- Identifies new customer opportunities to increase business through South Carolina Ports.
- Develops relationships with potential clients, leading to the location of new facilities in the State of South Carolina. Assists with securing transportation service providers, incentives and facilities or sites.
- Develops relationships with ocean carrier representatives, 3PLs, supply chain vendors, economic development entities, industrial real estate brokers and others to better serve clients.
- Achieves quarterly and annual sales objectives, reporting on results.
- Informs senior management of any issues with sales team goals and results.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Special cargo projects as assigned by the CEO, CCO, or Vice President.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 7 years of supply chain and/or sales experience.
- A valid driver’s license is required to operate a company-owned, licensed motor vehicle.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card under the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to meet sales goals and manage your own book of business.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently, potentially in a remote setting, as well as with a team.
- Ability to identify and lead the development of solutions when needed.
- Experience with the different aspects of international supply chains – ocean carriers, NVOs, truck, rail/intermodal, warehousing, etc.
- Exceptional presentation, relationship-building, and sales skills in a B2B and transportation environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, or International Trade.
- Professional experience in transportation, 3PL, contract logistics, or ocean carrier sales.
- Existing relationships with large volume importers and exporters.
- 10 years of progressive experience in transportation in a consultative sales environment.

- Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks
- Hearing is required to adequately perform telecommunication functions
- Ability to verbally communicate clearly with vendors, customers, co-workers, etc.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard/mobile device and view a computer monitor/mobile device for several hours per day.
