HukariAscendent is seeking a Structural Equipment Senior Engineer I to support the design and analysis of specialized equipment systems for advanced nuclear and radiological facilities. This role focuses on ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance of equipment used in highly controlled environments such as gloveboxes and hot cells.
Responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and design of nuclear equipment, including: Gloveboxes, Hot cells, Shielded enclosures, Custom process equipment and support structures
- Develop and review engineering calculations (stress, seismic, thermal, load cases)
- Design to applicable codes and standards (ASME, AISC, DOE, NRC as applicable)
- Generate and review: Fabrication drawings, General arrangement drawings, Equipment specifications
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, and nuclear engineers to integrate structural designs into overall systems
- Support hazard analyses, safety evaluations, and design reviews
- Ensure designs meet radiological containment and shielding requirements
- Interface with fabricators and vendors during design and procurement phases
- Support construction, installation, and field troubleshooting as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5–10+ years of structural or equipment design experience
- Experience with: Structural analysis and load calculations
- Experience with: Steel design and fabrication
- Experience with: Engineering design software (e.g., ANSYS, STAAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Strong understanding of engineering codes and standards (AISC, ASME, etc.)
- Ability to produce and review detailed engineering documentation
- Experience in the nuclear industry (DOE, commercial nuclear, or advanced reactor programs)
- Direct experience designing or analyzing: Gloveboxes (sealed radiological containment systems)
- Direct experience designing or analyzing: Hot cells (shielded enclosures for remote handling of radioactive materials)
- Knowledge of: Radiation shielding principles
- Knowledge of: Remote handling systems and maintainability requirements
- Experience with seismic design for safety-class or safety-significant systems
- Familiarity with nuclear quality assurance standards (e.g., NQA-1)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
