Mercury is a fintech company focused on providing a robust financial infrastructure. They are seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the Ledger platform, ensuring it meets regulatory standards and integrates seamlessly with various payment systems.
Responsibilities:
- Own the Ledger roadmap: Drive strategy and execution for Mercury's Double Entry Ledger (DEL)—the financial system of record
- Drive org-wide ledger adoption: Partner with payment rails teams to enable their flows on the ledger platform, ensuring event-to-ledger integration is clean, correct, and scalable
- Remove adoption friction, establish patterns, and accelerate the standardization that makes precise reconciliation possible
- Build next generation financial infrastructure: Own the implementation of our financial processes across charts of accounts, transfer code definitions, and GL mapping frameworks that connect to our core systems of record
- Partner with Finance and Accounting: Translate accounting requirements into product architecture, and translate product decisions back to stakeholders who think in debits, credits, journal entries, and regulatory reports
- Drive alignment on GL mappings, posting accuracy, and financial reporting pipelines
- Set the financial data standard: Define what clean, reconcilable financial data looks like at Mercury
- Work with the Reconciliation team to ensure every ledger entry is accurate, traceable, and exception-free
- Navigate a complex, high-stakes stakeholder environment: Coordinate across banking platform teams, payment rails teams, Finance, Compliance, Risk—all of whom depend on your platform and have a voice in how it evolves
Requirements:
- 7+ years of product management experience in fintech, financial services, or platform/infrastructure product roles
- Real technical fluency: you can engage credibly with engineers on event-sourced architectures, database consistency models, double-entry accounting data models, and financial data pipelines—not as a generalist, but as a peer
- Meaningful background in accounting, finance, or banking operations—you understand chart of accounts, GL mapping, journal entries, reconciliation workflows, and why they matter to regulators
- Experience building and scaling internal platform products with broad adoption requirements—you know how to work with adopter teams, reduce onboarding friction, and drive org-wide standardization across a distributed set of engineers
- A highly structured, data-driven approach to product decisions: you think in systems, model second and third-order effects, and communicate tradeoffs in a way that lands with both engineering and finance audiences
- Exceptional cross-functional communication—you earn credibility in rooms with accountants, engineers, compliance officers, and regulators, and you hold your own in all of them
