Gryphon Oakwood is conducting a confidential search for an Engineering Director – Mechanical to join a fast-growing, nationally recognized engineering and design firm. This role will lead all mechanical engineering efforts, overseeing plumbing, piping, and HVAC system design across various projects, ensuring high-quality designs that align with construction strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, overseeing: HVAC system design, Plumbing systems, Process and utility piping systems
- Drive engineering execution from concept through construction and commissioning
- Ensure all designs meet code requirements, constructability standards, and project performance goals
- Collaborate closely with: VDC / BIM teams, Construction and field operations, Project management and estimating teams
- Support prefabrication and modular design initiatives, ensuring designs are optimized for off-site construction
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and best practices
- Provide technical guidance on: Load calculations, System sizing and layout, Energy efficiency and lifecycle considerations
- Engage with clients and internal stakeholders to support project delivery and business development efforts
- Travel to job sites nationwide to support coordination, problem-solving, and execution
Requirements:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) – required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- 10+ years of experience in: Mechanical / MEP engineering, Design-build or construction-driven environments
- Proven experience leading teams responsible for: HVAC systems, Plumbing design, Piping systems (process, utility, or industrial)
- Strong understanding of: Integrated project delivery (design-build), Construction coordination and field execution
- Experience across industries such as: Data centers, Industrial / manufacturing, Healthcare or commercial projects
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Prefabrication / modularization
