Centrus Energy Corp is a leading provider of advanced nuclear fuel and services, dedicated to supporting the global energy transition through innovative solutions. They are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design, analyze, and optimize piping and mechanical systems within process-control environments. The role involves overseeing projects, ensuring compliance with standards, and leading innovative system design initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, construction, and maintenance of facility piping systems, including component sizing and equipment selection such as pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, and valves
- Utilize CFD, FEA, and other modeling tools to analyze pressure, flow, and thermal effects, validating piping integrity under static and dynamic loads, and performing pipe-stress and structural analyses
- Develop, review, and red-line mechanical and piping drawings, plans, and specifications based on engineering calculations, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for major projects or moderate scope projects, including preparing ROMs, detailed cost estimates, equipment specifications, and procurement documentation
- Participate in safety reviews, quality assurance activities, training sessions, and regulatory audits, continuously seeking opportunities to incorporate emerging technologies and best practices into design processes
- Produce comprehensive technical reports, literature reviews, and progress updates; present findings and project status to stakeholders and senior management effectively
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical support staff, providing guidance on mechanical and fluid-system design, troubleshooting, and equipment modifications to resolve malfunctions
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned to support project objectives and organizational goals
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of five years of relevant mechanical design engineering experience, particularly focused on piping and fluid systems in industrial liquid or gas processes
- Demonstrated expertise in pressure-drop calculations, fluid-flow optimization, and equipment sizing and selection
- Proficiency in static and dynamic piping analyses, including pipe-stress and support-structure calculations
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as ASME or equivalent
- Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Certifications in project management or quality assurance
- Experience working in highly regulated or process-driven industries such as nuclear, chemical processing, oil & gas, or HVAC
