Optum is a global leader in health care innovation, developing solutions to enhance health systems. The Technical Project Manager will coordinate teams, manage project delivery, and ensure effective communication across initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Tailor and apply appropriate project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) to match project needs, team maturity, and delivery constraints
- Build, manage, and maintain multiple detailed project plans, including milestones, dependencies, risks, resource requirements, and critical path activities to ensure projects reach completion
- Drive delivery and follow through across cross functional technical teams
- Interpret delivery metrics and recommend actions based on data; proactively surface options, trade offs, and adjustments for stakeholder decision making
- Proactively identify, track, and drive resolution of risks, issues, and cross team dependencies, escalating as needed to protect timelines and outcomes
- Facilitate structured communication with teams and stakeholders, adjusting messaging for audience, urgency, and context
- Navigate organizational processes and relationships to resolve conflicts, influence alignment, and remove delivery blockers
- Improve project quality by streamlining processes, identifying root cause patterns, and ensuring customer experience and business goals remain balanced
- Build solid internal and partner stakeholder relationships through consistent delivery, collaborative planning sessions, and ongoing feedback loops
- Support project financials by tracking estimates, forecasts, and variances
- Provide visibility into financial impacts and delivery risks
- Maintain structure and momentum across competing priorities while ensuring commitments are met
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience managing multiple concurrent technology projects end to end, including planning, delivery tracking, risk/issue resolution, dependency coordination, and stakeholder communication
- 2+ years of hands on experience in infrastructure operations, platform engineering, SRE, or systems engineering
- Working understanding of relevant technology security standards and ability to apply them across project activities
- Solid proficiency in adapting PM methodologies, developing detailed plans, and driving projects through full delivery cycles
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects with cross team dependencies and enterprise visibility
- Demonstrated advanced risk and issue management skills, including quantification, decision impact analysis, and evaluation of mitigation effectiveness
- Demonstrated solid problem solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to break down complex topics, validate assumptions, and incorporate feedback
- Demonstrated quality focused and customer centric, able to balance business value, customer impact, and technical feasibility
- Experience supporting infrastructure, platform, or application delivery teams in enterprise environments
- Familiarity working in matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholders and dependencies
