Enercon Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager - Mechanical for their Data Center Mission Critical Group. This role involves leading the Mechanical Engineering team in designing data center projects, ensuring quality deliverables, and supporting business development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Engineering Unit staff maintain schedules, budgets and quality of deliverables
- Work with Project Managers to define the scope of work
- Direct/assign work to the Engineering Unit to balance activities
- Assigns Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE)
- Maintain responsibility for the Unit’s quality; establish and enforce quality standards for the Unit through the Work Group Leads and Supervisors
- Maintain, update, and execute Unit Continuous Improvement Plans
- Accountable for ensuring project budget and schedule are met for Unit’s assigned projects
- Responsible for the approval of engineering documents produced by the Unit
- Hire, develop and retain staff
- Identify and promote opportunities for site work
- Identify and promote training opportunities (ex: owner’s groups, manufacturer, professional society)
- Utilize the review/approval process of deliverables as technical training opportunity for staff
- Provide timely and appropriate performance feedback and coaching
- Promote professional development (ex: professional license, certifications, and client qualifications)
- Support, follow, and enforce company policies and procedures
- Identify and develop future leaders of the organization
- Demonstrate technical leadership, providing resolution to technical issues either through own knowledge or by coordination with Subject Matter Expert
- Drive continuous improvement in the organization utilizing the lessons learned and corrective action programs
- Aggressively support marketing efforts and business planning
- Lead proposal preparation with input from discipline supervisors for scope and budget and review final proposals with Project Managers
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with client counterparts
- Assist with development and execution of business plan development and implementation, market assessment and planning, contract negotiation, product and service development
- Attend conferences and meet with clients in person when required
- Responsible for the assignment of engineering resources to projects through Supervisors and Work Group Leads
- Maintain short- and long-range staffing projections based on work projections
- Approve timesheets and expense reports of assigned personnel and other direct reports
- Conduct annual performance appraisals, appropriately documenting regular performance and ensuring performance on both ends of the spectrum, both positive and negative, is managed effectively
- Meets applied time goals for self; in addition, ensures that his/her staff meets their applied time goals
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree with a minimum 10 years of total experience in mechanical engineering with 5 years in data centers
- Data Center Mechanical Systems Design Expertise with knowledge of sustainability, energy, and CFD modeling
- PE License required
- Strong coordination and team building skills; demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, divisions, and teams
- Ability to assess and understand team strengths and weaknesses and adjust level of support/oversight as appropriate
- Ability to motivate team members and achieve goals through positive, winning attitude and effective leadership style which is consistent with ENERCON's Defining Excellence fundamentals
- Activities at client sites may require pre-job briefs and walkdowns at the site, including occasional climbing
- Excellent verbal communication skills; Comfortable and effective communicator with staff, clients (internal and external), management, etc., choosing the right mode of communication for the situation and relaying the right message
- Strong technical writing, attention to detail, and human performance skills
- Required to travel up to 20% of the time to client sites (expected to travel at least one time per month) for project and/or marketing meetings
