Edkey is a pioneering organization in open-source software and operating systems used widely across public cloud, data science, AI, engineering, and IoT initiatives. The role involves developing, testing, and releasing improvements to cloud images and tooling, while collaborating with distributed teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities:
- You will contribute to developing, testing, and releasing improvements to cloud images and tooling used by public clouds and enterprise deployments
- Work with distributed engineering teams and cloud partners to deliver reliable, high-quality Ubuntu-based images and automation
- Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to design and implement solutions
- Write high-quality Python code, including unit and functional tests
- Create, manage, and maintain Ubuntu cloud images and related tooling
- Debug issues across diverse target releases and environments; produce robust fixes
- Review code and provide constructive feedback to peers
- Investigate problems, discuss ideas, and help drive practical engineering solutions
- Communicate with users and community contributors to ensure needs are met
- Participate in occasional global travel (typically 2–4 weeks per year) for team sprints and events
Requirements:
- Strong Python development experience on Linux platforms
- Familiarity with Linux system administration principles
- Experience writing unit and integration/functional tests and automation
- Comfortable working in distributed teams and communicating asynchronously
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
- Passion for quality, attention to edge cases, documentation, and user experience
- Experience with Ubuntu and Debian packaging (deb)
- Familiarity configuring apt and creating system images
- Experience with continuous integration (CI) systems and end-system contract management
- Experience working with public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) or on-premise cloud environments
- Prior contributions to open source projects or community engagement
