Symbotic is an automation technology leader reimagining the supply chain with its end-to-end, AI-powered robotic and software platform. They are seeking a Senior Industrial Controls Engineer to join their Industrial Automation team, focusing on the development and implementation of PLC systems to enhance warehouse automation efficiency. The role involves leading R&D efforts, developing control systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in industrial control technology.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and simulation efforts for new control system functionalities from ground up design and modifications to existing control system code
- Spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications, leveraging advanced techniques and tools to drive innovation
- Collaborate with developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems to control new and existing automation systems
- Assist in developing best practices and standards for future control system programming
- Document standard code library and final control system programming
- Work autonomously to execute development tasks, focusing on pushing the boundaries of industrial control technology and exploring novel solutions to address industry challenges
- Actively participate in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures, providing specialized expertise to enhance system performance and accelerate development progress
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions effectively and drive project advancement
- Document research findings, development processes, and simulation results to capture valuable insights and facilitate knowledge sharing within the R&D team
- Define and plan technical tasks related to research and development projects, prioritizing innovative development efforts to advance industrial control technology
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineer, Computer science or in a related discipline
- Knowledge of Power Systems and Servo Controls to design coordinated motion control systems
- Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture
- 10+ years' Design and Implementation of Industrial Control Systems using PLC, HMIs, Industrial Robotics, and VFD/Servo Drives
- 10+ years' in ground up Programming of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems. (Rockwell Automation products preferred)
- Expert level experience in Rockwell Integrated Architecture (ControlLogix, GuardLogix, CompactLogix, Powerflex VFDs, Kinetix Servos)
- Expert level of Industrial Automation network technology
- Experience developing and programming HMI applications. (Ignition8, FactoryTalk ME/SE)
- Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics
- Hands on approach to testing and commissioning Industrial Control Systems
- Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated system
- Experience with JIRA and agile methodology
- Experience within the Material Handling Industry (Prior Integrator or OEM experience preferred)
- Knowledge in Inductive Automation products is a plus
- Knowledge of ABB, Schnieder Elec, Bosch Motion Control Solutions is a plus
