Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) is seeking a Staff Engineer to join their expanding Energy Market Analysis team. In this role, you will perform projects related to economic transmission planning and resource adequacy analysis, supporting the growth strategy of the company.
Responsibilities:
- Perform projects involving production cost modeling, capacity expansion analysis, resource adequacy analysis, and transmission planning
- Perform economic transmission planning studies to support grid planning, congestion mitigation, market efficiency, and transmission investment objectives for utilities and ISOs/RTOs
- Develop and maintain study models, including preparation of input datasets and assumptions related to generation fleets, transmission topology, fuel prices, load growth, and policy drivers
- Design and execute scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate market outcomes under varying assumptions such as load growth, resource mix evolution, and market design changes
- Interpret modeling results to identify trends and drivers, and translate complex technical findings into clear insights and recommendations
- Prepare client-ready reports, presentations, and technical documentation summarizing study assumptions, methodology, and results
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to support project development, review results, and communicate key findings
- Conduct model validation and quality assurance checks to ensure the accuracy and reliability of study results
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- Solid understanding of power system basics and knowledge of power regions of the country and independent system operators such as PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, NYISO
- Proven team player skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to producing high-quality report and deliverables, taking full ownership and pride in work
- Understanding of electricity market fundamentals such as Unit Commitment, SCED and LMP formulation
- Experience with electric production cost modeling tools such as PROMOD, PLEXOS, UPLAN, or any software with similar functionality and purpose
- Experience with data analysis and scripting tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or SQL to support modeling and analysis workflows
