The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing piping and mechanical systems within process-control environments that handle liquids or gases.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, construction, and maintenance of facility piping systems, including component sizing and equipment selection such as pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, and valves
- Model pressure, flow, and thermal effects using CFD, FEA, and other simulation tools; validate piping integrity under static and dynamic loads; perform pipe-stress and structural analyses
- Develop, review, and red-line mechanical and piping drawings, plans, and specifications based on engineering calculations; ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for major projects or moderate scope projects; prepare rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates, detailed cost estimates, and procurement documentation
- Participate in safety reviews, quality assurance activities, regulatory audits, and training sessions; incorporate emerging technologies and best practices to drive continuous improvement
- Produce technical reports, literature reviews, and progress updates; present findings and project status to stakeholders and senior management
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical support staff; provide troubleshooting guidance and modifications to resolve equipment malfunctions
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned to support project and organizational goals
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution
- At least five years of experience in mechanical design engineering, particularly focusing on piping and fluid systems within industrial settings such as chemical processing, oil and gas, nuclear, or HVAC industries
- Proficiency in static and dynamic piping analyses, CFD, FEA, and equipment sizing
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including ASME
- Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance
- Possess or be eligible for the necessary background checks and drug testing as mandated by federal regulations
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Certifications related to project management or quality assurance
