IBM is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Agentic Workflows team within the HCP Terraform Foundations Engineering group. This role involves leading a high-performing engineering team to build AI-powered developer tools, ensuring the team's health and the successful delivery of scalable and reliable production services.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, pragmatism, and shipping quickly
- Own sprint cadence and delivery against aggressive weekly milestones — the team runs 1-week sprints with a bias toward working software over planning artifacts
- Drive adoption of agentic developer tools across HashiCorp engineering, measuring success through PR merge rates, repeat usage, and task-to-PR conversion
- Partner with engineers to define task types, validate agent behavior, and iterate based on real usage data
- Maintain technical depth in the team's stack (AWS Bedrock, Slack APIs, GitHub integrations, isolated execution environments) to guide architectural decisions and unblock the team
- Champion working sessions, async standups, and lightweight RFCs as the team's primary operating rhythms
- Prioritize and address internal customer feedback, continuously improving trust and reliability
Requirements:
- At least 8 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a management or tech lead role
- Experience leading teams that build developer tools, internal platforms, or automation systems
- Strong background in cloud services (AWS preferred) and modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, GitHub workflows)
- Familiarity with AI/ML integration patterns — experience with LLM-based agents, AWS Bedrock, or similar orchestration frameworks is strongly valued
- Demonstrated ability to ship iteratively in ambiguous problem spaces with small teams
- Excellent communication skills, with a track record of building trust across engineering organizations
- Master's Degree
- Experience building Slack-based developer workflows or ChatOps tooling
- Familiarity with HashiCorp products (Terraform, Vault, Packer, Waypoint, Nomad, Boundary, Consul)
- Background in agentic AI systems, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted code generation
- Experience with event-driven architectures, serverless computing (Lambda, Step Functions), or container-based sandboxing
- Prior experience driving adoption of internal tools through metrics, dogfooding, and iteration rather than mandates
