Substation Civil Engineer - Client Lead

Commonwealth Associates, Inc. is seeking a Substation Civil Engineer – Client Lead to develop and apply advanced engineering techniques for complex substation design projects. This role involves serving as the primary contact for clients, leading technical execution, and ensuring alignment between client expectations and project outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, leading communication and building strong, long-term relationships
• Travel to client sites to support collaboration, project execution, and client engagement
• Lead civil/structural design for substation projects, including site development, grading, drainage, and foundations
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and oversee technical execution to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and CAD staff
• Identify client needs and support business development efforts, including contributing to proposals and expanding services

Requirements:

• 10–15 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus on substation design
• Demonstrated experience serving in a client-facing or client lead capacity, including direct interaction with utility or energy clients
• Proven ability to lead technical execution on multidisciplinary projects and mentor engineering teams
• Experience coordinating across disciplines and managing engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects
• Willingness and ability to travel to client sites on a regular basis
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required based on role and client needs
