We wanted to share some insights with you as we conduct interviews, review resumes, and realize a really seasoned PM at the Program Manager or Director level may not be the right fit for us. We are looking for someone who has enough project management experience to report progress, communicate effectively, and identify risks but not so seasoned that they would shy away from getting into the day-to-day work tracking and management. We need our PM to be tactical, understand who's doing what by when, capture and follow through on action items and meeting takeaways, and can represent the team in meetings as they would know how to articulate our approach and why we do things the way we do them. Someone with aspirations to reach more senior or leadership roles or function more at the executive level, will not address our gaps. We need someone who wants to do a solid project management job until we go live at the end of 2027
Overview / Background
· JM Family is seeking a hands-on, technical Project Manager to support a critical application modernization and data conversion initiative running through the end of next year.
· Role focuses on IT and data conversion, not traditional business-process PM work.
· PM will support conversion of legacy systems to a modern vendor platform (vendor details confidential).
· Strong past partnership highlighted; clarity on requirements is key to successful placements.
Role Expectations
· Must meet standard JM PM foundational responsibilities, plus portfolio conversion–specific demands.
· Role is intentionally different from other JM PM roles due to the technical and fast-paced nature of the work.
· Requires ability to:
· Go deep into technical detail when needed
· Shift to executive-level communication and strategic planning
· Remove obstacles, drive decisions, and clearly articulate problems and solutions
· Highly dynamic, adaptable, and fast learner with strong ownership mindset.
· Team-oriented culture: no task is “beneath” the role; strong collaboration required.
Key Skills
· Experience with data conversion or system migration projects strongly preferred
· Strong organizational and facilitation skills (meetings, notes, follow-ups, action items)
· Ability to break down “black boxes” into clear tasks, owners, timelines, and sequencing
· Excellent time management, communication, and transparency
· Comfortable managing and maintaining ADO (Azure DevOps) boards (Jira or similar acceptable if willing to learn)
· Process improvement mindset (mini kaizens, continuous improvement)
· Comfortable working in 8-week SDLC cycles with tight deadlines
· Proactive in raising risks and prioritization issues early
· Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
· Able to report clearly and accurately to executive leadership (bi-weekly/monthly)
Technical Environment
· Microsoft shop (Copilot in use; experience is a plus)
· Conversion involves outbound files and validation/testing in vendor system
· Experience in auto finance industry is a strong plus but not required
· Familiarity with modern target system (shared confidentially with Lara) will be heavily weighted
· PM/BA hybrid profiles welcome
· BAs with relevant conversion/system experience are also of interest
