Odyssey Information Services is seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer / zOS Operations Engineer to support a large enterprise IBM z/OS environment. This role is responsible for daily system operations, IPL support, HMC administration, change windows, emergency response, and software upgrades.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily health checks of LPARs, started tasks, VTAM nodes, and JES spool utilization
- Monitor system resources (CPU, JNUM, JQES, BUFX) and resolve performance issues
- Support batch job management, priority adjustments, initiator changes, and task recycling
- Lead and support Sunday IPL / change window activities, including PORs, PARMLIB updates, and Coupling Facility maintenance
- Create and maintain IPL run sheets / SOP documentation
- Manage HMC operations, LPAR profiles, capacity changes, STP, SOFTCAP, and Capacity on Demand
- Support MQ, DB2, CICS, zOS Connect, and other critical started task recycling outside IPL windows
- Execute emergency dumps, system restores, failovers, and outage recovery procedures
- Support z/OS software upgrades and hardware refresh activities
Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM z/OS mainframe administration
- Expertise with LPARs, IPLs, PORs, HMC, JES, VTAM, DB2, MQ, and CICS
- Experience supporting enterprise change windows and production incident response
- Strong troubleshooting and system recovery background
