Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Kong Developer to design, implement, and manage APIs using Kong API Gateway. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with API management, microservices architecture, and securing, monitoring, and scaling APIs in cloud or hybrid environments.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy APIs using Kong API Gateway
• Configure and manage Kong plugins (authentication, rate limiting, logging, transformations, etc.)
• Implement API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, mTLS
• Manage Kong in DB-less and DB-backed modes
• Integrate Kong with microservices and backend systems
• Deploy and manage Kong on Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform)
• Set up monitoring and logging using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK
• Perform API lifecycle management, versioning, and documentation
• Troubleshoot production issues and optimize API performance
• Collaborate with DevOps, backend, and frontend teams

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong experience with Kong API Gateway (OSS or Enterprise)
• Good understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Knowledge of API security standards (OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect)
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with NGINX concepts
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Node.js, Python, or Go)
• Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills

 

Experience Level

• 3 8+ years in API development / API gateway implementation
• 2+ years hands-on with Kong API Gateway
