The Automation Engineer on the Ethos Platform Reliability team will organize maintenance activities for Kubernetes clusters and collaborate with internal teams to build automation that supports complex scheduling requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate complex releases, changes and feature deprecation among the multiple teams that deliver them, while communicating with our large body of internal clients
- Identify client needs and update release schedules to facilitate their needs
- Ideate, develop and deploy self-service, client oriented applications to aid with scheduling and reporting
- Write software that integrates multiple systems such as Git, JIRA, Slack to aid in fleet visibility and release orchestration
- Strive to reduce platform outages and increase velocity through process review, improvement and enforcement
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and internal clients to achieve the best outcomes in a challenging environment. Examples include scheduling high-risk work during sensitive periods like holidays or conferences
- Work directly with your senior manager in a medium sized, multi-layer organization to assist with automation, reporting and process optimization. You may be asked to act as your leader's delegate in some cases
Requirements:
- B.Sc. or higher in related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ combined years of proven experience in release engineering, software engineering, site reliability engineering, program management, and/or configuration management
- An understanding of platform maintenance methodologies and experience coordinating planned work with clients
- Skills and passion for automating repetitive work using scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash) and familiarity with popular frameworks like Flask and React
- Fluency in the modern AI landscape, including use of tools such as Cursor, Co-Pilot and Claude
- Highly organized and able to balance multiple communication channels, schedules and meetings
- Strong written and oral skills
- A strong understanding and extensive experience with scrum terminology and processes
- Experience with cloud service providers: Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, REST-based APIs, API Gateways and CI/CD systems
- A belief in process documentation and experience writing them against a technical landscape
- A schedule which allows you to occasionally meet between 7AM and 10AM pacific time, or 9AM and noon eastern time
