Bechtel Corporation is a global leader in engineering and construction, currently executing LNG projects across the US Gulf Coast. The Tanks Civil Field Engineer will oversee civil works related to LNG tank construction, ensuring compliance with design requirements and quality control while coordinating with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and leads inspections of completed civil works, both pre-pour and post pour
- Ensure material deliveries for tank civil works comply with drawings and specifications
- Coordinates reinforcement and embedded items deliveries, schedule, dimension control and resolve clash issues with suppliers and Tank design engineers
- Provides technical input for Civil/Structural Superintendents assigned to LNG full containment tanks
- Coordinates with Engineering on Civil/Structural constructability and design issues
- Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all Civil/Structural quantities in the assigned areas
- Provides input to quantity tracking applications and review weekly installed quantities to Project Controls
- Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured Civil/Structural materials, material substitution, services, equipment, tools, and consumables
- Coordinates through Procurement to obtain these materials
- Monitors direct hire and Subcontract Civil/Structural Operations and activities to ensure materials, equipment and quality comply with design and specifications
- Plans and recommends procedures to be implemented by Civil/Structural superintendents and Subcontractors to ensure construction operations are within requirements for safety, engineering, specifications, meeting quality and schedule requirements
- Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy
- Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility
- Responsible for the implementation of project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations
- Ensures current design documents are used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation
- Monitor work activities to ensure the safety and quality of work performed and compliance with project specifications
- Assist in performing construction testing as required
- Coordinate activities with other discipline engineers s and client resident representatives, as necessary to meet project objectives
- Participates in preparation of Civil input for cost estimates for construction activities and provides Civil/Structural input for preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports
Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in heavy industrial concrete installations which include post tensioning and jump form systems
- Knowledge of engineering, construction methods, sequence, and processes with an emphasis on prestressed, heavily reinforced concrete LNG tanks
- Knowledge of LNG Tank works including, internal concrete layers, precast concrete bearing ring, bottom and wall insulation, outer tank carbon steel liner and inner tank erection, tank top installation works and tank wall external structures
- Working knowledge of the ACI (American Concrete Institute) Codes, primarily ACI-376
- Experience in interacting with Subcontractors and Direct Hire Workforce
- Knowledge of Bechtel's SWPPs. (Standard Work Process Procedures)
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD and the ability to understand, interpret, and create 2D drawings
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet applications
- Ability to work with multi-national employees and across different languages
- Ability to train up team members and provide mentorship to others
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
- Work includes field inspections and the physical ability: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces
- Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress)
- Must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e., harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift
