The Structural Steel Field Engineer will provide project field engineering expertise, focusing on work planning, material management, and ensuring safety and quality control throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares construction drawings and sketches
- Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans
- Initiates requisitions for field purchases
- Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment
- Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely
- Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities
- Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H)
- Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program
- Understanding of structural steel design and AISC code requirements
- Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and Bechtel database applications
- Must be familiar with current industry quality standards
- Knowledge of Project Technical Requests (PTR) for routing and resolving Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Non Conformance/Compliance Reports (NCRs) between project sites, contractors, clients, and home office
- Knowledge of work packaging
- Basic understanding of production management including scheduling
- Sound communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development
- Direct hire construction experience
- Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces
- Some lifting may be required
- Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress)
- Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
