The Civil/Structural Substation Engineer will be responsible for civil/structural engineering tasks in support of electrical substation design, focusing on structural engineering and design.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Civil/Structural Engineering related tasks as assigned, with minimal guidance, in support of Electrical Substation design primarily focused on structural engineering and design
- Perform structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation designs
- Generate structural steel and reinforced concrete details
- Develop structural analysis models and design of steel structures and equipment support foundations
- Utilize in-house developed design tools to assist in analysis, post-processing and creating construction drawings
- Assist in the preparation of calculation reports and packages, steel and rebar fabrication shop drawing review, and construction submittal review
- Involved in executing structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing, for transmission and distribution electrical substations with voltage classes up to and including 345kV
- Review and produce civil/structural design drawings including Structural and Foundation Plans and Details and Oil Containment Plan and Details
- Review civil design drawings including Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan and Details for coordination with structural and other substation physical elements
- Work as a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility while under the direction and supervision of a registered Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent
- Professional Engineer licensure or FE/EIT certification with plans to obtain PE license within 1-1/2 years
- 3-6+ years of civil/structural substation design engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm (can be evaluated at higher level based on experience)
- Experience with Excel, Word, Mathcad, RISA3D or other FEA software, MFAD, L-Pile, and AutoCAD are preferred
- Familiarity with standard building codes including IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and AWS (Experience with ASCE 113, NESC, or IEEE standards a plus)
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% when needed within the continental US
