Product Engineer Intern

Actian is a trusted leader in data management, integration, and analytics, dedicated to helping businesses unlock the full potential of their data. The Product Engineer Intern will work on AI-powered data product tooling within Actian's Data Intelligence Platform, collaborating with various stakeholders and presenting a capstone project at the end of the internship.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deliver an AI-focused capstone project: either an AI intelligence layer for data contracts (similarity search, lifecycle management, maturity assessment, NLG) or an AI-powered governance coach and gamification engine for data products
• Build and integrate AI/ML features into Actian’s Data Product Workbench using Java, Python, and React
• Collaborate with customers, partners, and the Bitol open-source community (Linux Foundation) to validate requirements and gather feedback
• Participate in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and design discussions with the product and engineering teams
• Present your capstone project and findings at the Internship Showcase in week 12

Requirements:

• Must be actively enrolled in a college degree program
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science (junior standing or above preferred)
• At least one prior successful internship in software engineering or a related field
• Hands-on experience with Claude Code is required
• Hands-on experience with Linux deployment is required
• Hands-on experience with Java (Springboot), Python, or React; familiarity with AI/ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, LangChain) is a plus
• Interest in data management, data governance, or open standards (ODCS, ODPS)
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with external stakeholders (customers and partners)
