Torc is a leader in autonomous driving technology focused on developing software for automated trucks. As a Senior Systems Test Engineer – Vehicle Testing, you will validate the safety and performance of autonomous driving systems and define test strategies to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Define and own vehicle-level test strategy aligned to safety goals and system requirements
- Develop and maintain detailed test cases and specifications for autonomous driving functions
- Derive test coverage from requirements, HARA/FMEA outputs, ASIL levels, and SOTIF analyses
- Design and execute structured test scenarios across perception, planning, and control systems
- Lead closed-course and on-road vehicle testing across a variety of ODD conditions
- Develop and implement post-processing scripts (Python/MATLAB) to assess pass/fail criteria and automate analysis
- Investigate, triage, and document system-level defects and anomalies identified during testing
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to propose and implement corrective actions
- Own contributions to safety case closure, including traceability, test evidence, and defect reporting
- Produce clear and comprehensive technical reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and regulatory audiences
- Ensure all testing activities align with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company protocols
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Robotics, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, or safety-critical system testing
- Strong experience developing test cases from system requirements, safety goals and ASIL classifications, scenario-based safety analyses (ODDs, edge cases, SOTIF scenarios)
- Practical knowledge of ISO 26262 (Functional Safety)
- Practical knowledge of ISO 21448 (SOTIF)
- Experience with vehicle-level testing and real-world validation environments
- Strong understanding of perception systems, sensor fusion, and ML validation challenges
- Experience with CAN and Ethernet-based automotive systems
- Experience with data logging and vehicle debugging tools
- Experience with ROS/ROS2 or similar robotics middleware
- Strong scripting skills (Python and/or MATLAB) for data analysis and post-processing
- Proven ability to investigate system behavior, identify root causes, and translate findings into actionable insights
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Robotics, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- Experience testing autonomous vehicles or ADAS systems in production environments
- Experience working with simulation, HiL, or large-scale validation frameworks
- Familiarity with perception model failure modes and data-driven validation approaches
- Experience supporting safety case development or regulatory submissions
